    A Global Conversation on Women’s Participation in Public Service

    On December 15, 2011, the Women in Public Service Project will host the first global conversation on increasing women’s participation in public service and creating a global network of women equipped to tackle today’s challenges.

    The colloquium will feature Secretary of State Hillary R. Clinton and a global representation of government leaders, policy makers, public officials, scholars, students, researchers, and leaders in public service.

    Confirmed speakers include:

    • Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund;
    • Madeleine Albright, former U.S. Secretary of State;
    • Irina Bokova, Director-General of the United Nations’ Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO);
    • Dr. Florence Chenoweth, Minister of Agriculture for the Republic of Liberia;
    • Helen Clark, Administrator of the United Nations’ Development Programme;
    • Jane Harman, former Congresswoman and Director of the Woodrow Wilson Center;
    • Atifete Jahjaga, the President of Kosovo;
    • Kathleen Sebelius, U.S. Secretary of Health & Human Services; and
    • Gloria Steinem, author and activist

    The colloquium will:

    • Draw public attention to the importance of increasing participation and leadership roles for women in public service
    • Explore creative solutions to increasing the number of young women who aspire to and are empowered to pursue a career in public service
    • Build a network of advocates and expertise that will help advance this effort
    • Highlight the 2012 pilot summer institute at Wellesley to help train promising women leaders from around the world
